Sample marriage biodata for a boy (groom)
This is what a complete, well-written groom biodata looks like. Notice what it does: education and profession carry specifics (institution, employer), the about-me is first-person and concrete, and the partner preferences are short and respectful — no demand lists.

About Me
I've been in Bengaluru for six years, working in cloud infrastructure. Weekends are for cricket and cooking experiments that occasionally succeed. I'm close to my parents, financially settled, and looking to build an equal partnership — someone to plan with, not just live with.
Partner Preferences
25–29, graduate or postgraduate, working or career-minded. City flexible within India. Community no bar for the right match.

Sample marriage biodata for a girl (bride)
Same one-page structure. A modern bride's biodata leads with her education and career exactly like the groom's — the days of "fair, homely, convent-educated" openers are over, and families increasingly skip complexion and weight entirely.

Partner Preferences
28–33, postgraduate preferred (any field, not only medicine), settled in Maharashtra or open to Pune. Values matter more than community.

The marriage biodata format, field by field
A biodata is one A4 page with five blocks, in this order:
- Header — full name, one recent photo. An optional religious opening line (॥ श्री गणेशाय नमः ॥, ॐ, Bismillah, ✝) if your family uses one.
- Personal details — date of birth (with age), height, religion and community (caste/gotra optional — see below), education with institution and year, profession with designation and employer, income (optional, common for grooms), languages.
- Family details — parents' names and professions, siblings and their status, family type (nuclear/joint) in 4–6 lines. This block matters more to Indian families than anything except the photo.
- About me + partner preferences — 60–100 first-person words about yourself, then ~50 words on what you're looking for. Specific but flexible ("28–33, postgraduate preferred") beats demand lists ("must be fair, slim, adjusting").
- Contact — whose number goes here signals who leads the search: a parent's for family-led, your own for self-led.
What to leave out in 2026
- Complexion and weight — increasingly read as a red flag by educated families.
- Long partner demand lists — they shrink your responses; two respectful sentences work better.
- Horoscope claims — include rashi/nakshatra only if your family matches kundli; detailed manglik discussion belongs in conversation, not the biodata.
- Cliché self-descriptions — "simple, caring, family-oriented" says nothing; "I've trained in Hindustani vocal for eleven years" says everything.
Community and language variations
- Hindu (Hindi belt): gotra, rashi and manglik status are standard fields — the Hindi biodata maker includes them.
- Marathi: adds कुलदैवत (family deity), मूळ गाव (native village) and मामांचे नाव (maternal uncle) — fields specific to Maharashtrian match-making; use the Marathi biodata maker.
- Bengali: written as পাত্র/পাত্রী বিবরণ with আদি নিবাস (ancestral home) — see the Bengali biodata maker.
- Gujarati: adds કુળદેવી (family goddess — e.g., Umiya Mataji), મોસાળ (maternal uncle's family) and વતન (ancestral town), and often notes NRI ties — use the Gujarati biodata maker.
- Telugu: the surname (inti peru) is written first, gotram is effectively mandatory, and the format adds ఇలవేల్పు (family deity) and explicit Kuja dosham status — use the Telugu biodata maker.
- Tamil: shared alongside the jathagam, with குலதெய்வம் (family deity temple), rasi-natchathiram-lagnam and Chevvai dosham status — use the Tamil biodata maker.
- Muslim: the nikah biodata replaces gotra/rashi with deen — namaz, maslak, and the walī as contact — see the nikah biodata maker.

What is the correct format of a marriage biodata?
One A4 page with five blocks: (1) header with name and photo, (2) personal details — date of birth, height, religion/community, education, profession, (3) family details — parents and siblings in 4–6 lines, (4) about me and partner preferences in short first-person paragraphs, (5) contact details. Skip weight, complexion and long demand lists.
How can I download a marriage biodata format in Word for free?
Download the free .docx templates on this page — English (classic and modern), Hindi, Marathi and Bengali. They open in Microsoft Word, Google Docs and WPS Office. No sign-up or payment is needed.
How do I make a marriage biodata PDF on my phone?
Use the free Manzil biodata maker: fill the form, pick one of 7 templates and tap Download PDF. It works in the browser on any phone — nothing to install, no sign-up, and your data never leaves your device.
What is the difference between a biodata for a boy and a girl?
The structure is identical. Convention differs slightly: a groom's biodata usually emphasises profession, employer and income stability, while a bride's traditionally emphasised family — but modern biodatas for both lead with education, profession and what the person actually wants in a partner.
Should I include caste, gotra or horoscope details?
Include community, caste, gotra, rashi or nakshatra only if your family's matching process uses them — most Hindu family-led searches do, and the fields are standard in Hindi and Marathi formats. If you are open to inter-caste matches, say so explicitly; it widens your pool.
Is a marriage biodata the same as a resume?
No. A resume sells your professional skills to an employer; a biodata introduces you and your family to another family. It includes personal details a resume never would — family background, community, partner preferences — and stays to one page with a photo.
